Ash cloud from Popocatépetl volcano observed at 6.1 km altitude, Mexico
An ash cloud from Popocatépetl volcano in Mexico was observed at 6.1 km (20 000 feet) altitude at 02:11 UTC on November 6, 2026, according to the Washington Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC). The ash cloud was moving east-southeast from the summit based on satellite imagery.
The advisory noted that weather cloud cover obscured the volcano on the webcam. The VAAC based its analysis on GOES-19 satellite data, webcam input, and numerical weather prediction models. The forecast indicated the ash cloud would move southeast for the next six hours, then shift to a southward direction for the following twelve hours at the same altitude. No Aviation Color Code was stated in the advisory.
Popocatépetl is a stratovolcano located in central Mexico and is part of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt.
