Ash cloud from Sangay volcano observed at 6.7 km altitude, Ecuador

An ash cloud from Sangay volcano, Ecuador, was observed at 6.7 km (22 000 feet) altitude at 04:30 UTC on November 6, 2026. The Washington Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) based the advisory on satellite (GOES-19), webcam, and numerical weather model data.

No volcanic ash was currently detected in satellite imagery at the time of the latest observation due to meteorological cloud cover obscuring the summit area. However, continuous volcanic activity was observed on the webcam, and recent satellite data from previous hours had identified an ash cloud moving west-southwest from the summit. The ash cloud area was estimated using model data and previous advisories, with the advisory forecasting ash movement turning toward the west at the same altitude through the next 18 hours. No Aviation Color Code was stated in the advisory.
