Alert – Electron 2 MeV Integral Flux exceeded 1,000 pfu on November 2

An alert was issued by NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center on November 2, 2026, confirming that the Electron 2 MeV Integral Flux exceeded 1,000 particles flux units (pfu). Elevated electron flux levels have been ongoing since 13:02 UTC on November 1, 2026. The maximum recorded 2 MeV electron flux reached 5,350 pfu at 15:50 UTC on November 1, 2026.

Elevated electron flux levels at geosynchronous orbit can cause deep dielectric charging in satellite components, which may lead to anomalies, malfunctions, or operational concerns for spacecraft operators. Ground-based impacts are generally minimal during such events, but satellite services and communications in high-altitude or polar orbits may experience increased risks.

Forecasts indicate that the greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to continue at high levels through November 4, 2026. During the alert period, solar activity has remained at low levels, with no significant solar flares or proton events observed. The geomagnetic field experienced G1 (Minor) storm levels early in the period, largely attributed to the effects of a positive polarity coronal hole high-speed solar wind stream.
