G1 – Minor Geomagnetic Storm Watch issued for September 24, 2026

A G1 – Minor Geomagnetic Storm Watch was issued for September 24, 2026. According to the official alert from NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, no geomagnetic storm activity at G1 level or above is expected on September 22 and 23, but a G1 – Minor storm is predicted on September 24, 2026. This Watch supersedes any previously issued watches in effect.

The area of impact is expected to be primarily poleward of 60 degrees geomagnetic latitude. Potential impacts during the G1 – Minor storm include weak power grid fluctuations and minor impacts on satellite operations. Aurora may become visible at high latitudes, including the northern tier of the United States such as northern Michigan and Maine.

The latest SWPC forecast discussion indicates solar activity remained low, with three C-class solar flares observed: a C1.1 flare at 20/0518 UTC from Region 4535, and a C1.2 flare at 21/0629 UTC as well as a C3.7 flare at 20/2234 UTC, both from Region 4534. No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) were detected in available imagery during this reporting period.
