Ash cloud from Reventador volcano observed at 4.6 km altitude, Ecuador

An ash cloud from Reventador volcano, Ecuador, was observed at 4.6 km (15 000 feet) altitude at 02:30 UTC on September 16, 2026. The Washington Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) reported the ash cloud based on webcam observations.

The advisory stated volcanic ash emissions were visible in the webcam but not detected in satellite imagery due to meteorological cloud cover. The observed ash cloud showed west-northwest movement, with model data forecasting a shift toward the northwest within 12 hours at the same altitude. The analysis was based on data from GOES-19 satellite, VONA, webcam, and numerical weather prediction models. No Aviation Color Code was stated in the advisory.
