Ash from Sabancaya volcano observed at 7.0 km, Peru

An ash cloud from Sabancaya volcano in southern Peru was observed at 7.0 km (23 000 feet) altitude at 17:00 UTC on August 13, 2026. The Buenos Aires Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) issued the report based on satellite imagery, numerical weather model output, and webcam observations. The ash cloud was moving east-southeast at about 30 km/h (15 mph).

The advisory described a pulse of volcanic ash detected by both satellite and webcam imagery. Model forecasts indicated the ash cloud would remain at the same altitude and continue moving to the southeast over the next 12 hours. No Aviation Color Code was stated in the advisory.

Sabancaya is an active stratovolcano located in the Andes of southern Peru.
