G1 – Minor Geomagnetic Storm Watch issued for August 12, 2026

A G1 – Minor Geomagnetic Storm Watch has been issued for August 12, 2026. The Watch was released by NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center at 20:55 UTC on August 11, 2026, in anticipation of increased geomagnetic activity primarily affecting areas poleward of 60 degrees geomagnetic latitude.

According to the Watch, minor geomagnetic storm conditions may occur and could lead to weak power grid fluctuations. Satellite operations may experience minor impacts, and auroras may be visible at high latitudes such as the northern tier of the United States, including northern Michigan and Maine.

The alert is prompted by forecasts indicating that isolated G1 – Minor geomagnetic storm periods are possible on August 12 due to the influence of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that departed the Sun on August 8, 2026. Enhanced solar wind conditions are expected to persist through August 13 as CME effects continue.
