An ash emission at Popocatépetl volcano in Mexico was observed at 7.0 km (23 000 feet) altitude at 12:41 UTC on August 8, 2026, according to the Washington Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC). The ash cloud was moving west at about 20 km/h (10 mph).

The VAAC based the advisory on data from GOES-19 satellite imagery, webcam observations, numerical weather prediction models, and VOLCAT. The advisory stated continued ash emissions were observed in both webcam and satellite imagery, with model forecasts indicating ash cloud movement toward the west at the same altitude for at least 18 more hours. The advisory did not state an Aviation Color Code.

Popocatépetl is a stratovolcano located in central Mexico and is one of the most active volcanoes in the country.
