A M5.1 earthquake was recorded at 19:35 UTC on June 28, 2025, about 31 km (19 miles) south-southwest of Puerto San José, Guatemala, at a depth of 55.5 km (34.5 miles).

The event’s epicenter was located at coordinates 13.7°N, 91.0°W, just off the Pacific coast of southern Guatemala. Puerto San José is the nearest significant locality, known as an important port city of the region. The surrounding area forms part of the south-central coastal plain of Guatemala, with several small communities and fishing villages nearby.

Regional infrastructure potentially affected includes coastal highways, port facilities, and energy installations that serve both Puerto San José and the wider Escuintla Department. As a coastal region, marine transport lanes and commercial fisheries are also part of the local infrastructure.
