C5.9 solar flare erupts on June 19, 2025

A minor C5.9 solar flare erupted at 06:51 UTC on June 19, 2025.

Today’s flares include a C1.7 flare at 01:30 UTC, a C4.4 flare at 04:12 UTC from region 4117, a C5.9 flare at 06:51 UTC from region 4117, a C6.0 flare at 07:27 UTC from region 4114, and a C7.9 flare at 09:17 UTC from region 4114. No M- or X-class flares were observed.

In 24 hours to 12:30 UTC on June 19, solar activity was at low levels. Region 4114 remained the largest and most complex but became more stable. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed.

Minor to moderate solar flare activity is likely, with a chance for strong R3-level (X-class) flares through June 21, mainly from regions 4114, 4115, and 4117.

There are currently six numbered active regions on the Earth-side of the Sun: AR 4111 (N15W51 – Beta), AR 4113 (N10W36 – Alpha), AR 4114 (N18W26 – Beta-Gamma), AR 4115 (N20W15 – Beta-Gamma), AR 4116 (S12W29 – Beta), and AR 4117 (S16E63 – Beta).

Over the past 24 hours, the greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained elevated but did not cross the 1 000 pfu threshold. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels. Elevated electron flux is expected to continue through June 20, with background proton levels anticipated.

Solar wind parameters reflected a positive polarity coronal hole high speed stream regime. Total field remained around 7–9 nT, Bz oscillated between ±8 nT, and speeds averaged 480–560 km/s. These conditions are expected to persist through June 20 with decreasing influence thereafter. Slight enhancement is possible due to a weak CME-driven shock on June 20.

The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled during the past 24 hours. Quiet to active conditions are expected to continue, with a likelihood of G1 – Minor geomagnetic storming on June 20 and unsettled conditions into June 21.
